Reshaping the Facial Oval 

Over time, the skin becomes thinner and sags, the fat descent tends to pull the skin downward while facial contours become less defined. The facial oval is droopier and less defined while “jowls” appear.

In non-surgical aesthetic medicine, the ideal facial oval treatment is to combine several techniques, depending on face type and the patient’s age.

Injections to the facial oval zone

The “restoration” or cheekbone augmentation by injection is one of the first treatment options to remodel the oval of the face.  It can be done through deep hyaluronic acid injections (Juvederm Voluma according to the MD CODES, or Restylane Lyft). The injection dosage is perfectly controlled by Doctor Cozanet, an aesthetic doctor, to obtain the most natural looking results. It’s about restoring volume loss due to aging skin without leaving a “pillow-face” (overly puffy effect) nor an overcorrection.

Muscle atrophy, fat loss and descent in the temple zone form shaded hollows which age the face and modify the contours downward towards the lower facial oval zone. Temple fillers with hyaluronic acid injections restore their original and natural volume. The facial contour is redefined, and the oval is reshaped.

Hyaluronic acid injections for the chin also improve the altered projection caused by aging and redefine the facial oval line.

When the sagging is more advanced and intense, and to properly redefine the jawline, Dr Benjamin Cozanet could recommend a filler injection product (hyaluronic acid, or Calcium hydroxyapatite, Radiesse®)or HarmonyCa® or Sculptra® long the inferior jaw, or elsewhere to reduce the appearance of “jowls”.

These injections can be combined, if necessary, with a layering technique on the cheeks with Skinboosters, or a low reticulated hyaluronic acid or a tissue inducer (Calcium hydroxyapatite Radiesse®).

All these facial oval injections require a particular expertise. The volumizing agent must be distributed to the right areas, useful and necessary to obtain the desired lifted effect, while preserving a natural looking face.  

The treatment takes place at Dr Benjamin Cozanet’s clinic in the 1st district of Paris and lasts about 30 minutes, or more. Sometimes superficial anesthesia is applied, on top of the anesthetic already contained in the hyaluronic acid to provide maximum comfort to his patients.

The results are immediate and remain visible for 12-18 months, providing a facial oval with a rejuvenated appearance. Hyaluronic acid is bioresorbable, and thus it is sometimes advisable to renew the injections every 8 months to preserve the initial session’s benefits and to limit the product dosage and prevent overuse. 

Sometimes, slight bruises at injection points or secondary light swelling may appear: these undesirable side-effects are rare and disappear within a few hours. It is often advised to massage the injection zone. The Doctor will provide a detailed explanation of the post-injection instructions and the type of massage to perform, if necessary, depending on the injections you have received.

Shaping, Toning and Lifting the facial oval without surgery

To tighten and re-densify the facial oval skin, Endymed 3Deep radiofrequency or Ultherapy Prime® could be recommended by Dr Benjamin Cozanet.

Ultherapy Prime® is a non-surgical lifting technique using ultrasounds. This is the only non-surgical technique approved by the FDA for its lifting effects to the treated skin zones.

This treatment is recommended when the skin sags and appears less firm on the facial oval.  Loose skin on the neck and below the chin or fine lines or wrinkles on the decolletage are also problems which can be treated through Ultherapy Prime®.

The facial oval thread lift technique 

This is a non-invasive, non-surgical aesthetic medical technique which uses resorbable tensor threads including (or not) bidirectional cones which are inserted into the skin to lift the facial oval or cheeks (under local anesthesia).

The threads are made of poly-L-lactic acid, caprolactone, or polydioxanone and are entirely resorbable, much like the suture threads which have been used in surgery for many years now. It is a medical process which is both biocompatible and biodegradable.

Once inserted into the skin by Dr Benjamin Cozanet, and after local anesthesia, the threads smooth, firm and revitalize the tissues through a mechanical and biological process.

This procedure lasts 15-45 minutes depending on the treatment zone. The results are immediately visible and continue to progress after the session. Skin appears smoothed, regenerated and restructured.

How to treat a double chin which deforms and weighs down the facial oval

Cryolipolysis through Coolsculpting® is the referent, non-surgical, riskless method of fat cell elimination through cold temperature.  The CoolMini device effectively treats the double chin, which weighs down and deforms the facial oval. 

Cryolipolysis on the chin is only prescribed to patients with optimal skin elasticity.
