Full, prominent, defined, rounded, uplifted cheekbones provide a healthier and more youthful appearance.

As we age, the loss of subcutaneous fat tissue results in cheekbone volume modifications with skin laxity showing up on the cheeks. Sagging cheekbones and the arrival of the tear trough deformity give a tired, sad, sagging appearance to the face.

For both men and women, hyaluronic acid is used to treat cheekbones and cheeks.

All-Around Benefits:

  • Restores loss of cheekbone(and/or) cheek volume

  • Reshapes the contours of the face

  • Corrects facial disharmony

Dr Cozanet has observed that between 20-30, cheekbones remain high, giving the face a certain vitality and force, quite typical of younger faces.  However, it is possible to correct an inherent facial asymmetry in younger patients or to volumize flat or non-existent cheekbones.

Treating the cheekbones with hyaluronic acid injections

In the aesthetic medicine domain, the volumizing hyaluronic acid injection restores volume loss to the cheekbones.

For Doctor Cozanet, cheekbone fillers must be performed with moderation to ensure natural-looking results. FYI: adding volume to already full and prominent cheekbones is out of the question.

Volumizing products like Juvederm Voluma, Restylane Volyme/Lyft are both high-quality choices, with outstanding results in the treatment of cheekbone volume issues.

Cheekbone repositioning harmonizes the curves of the upper face and acts as a preventative shield against aging in the lower facial area, and most especially for facial oval definition. It restores facial disharmony triggered by progressive tissue sagging and diminished projection.

The filling of the malar region helps to “lift” the underlying regions and to treat nasolabial folds, jowls and the tear trough zone.

The filler product, when injected deep beneath the skin by Dr Cozanet, rarely results in any kind of hematoma.

The results are immediate and will be most optimal in the 15 days following the session. Upon completion of the session, patients will already notice the difference and observe the rejuvenating effect of the cheekbone treatment. The effects improve the facial expression appearance and instantly relieve a look of tiredness.

The Doctor always schedules a follow-up appointment within 15-30 days after the injections, to analyze the final results. He can also recommend a complementary product therapy, customized to the patient’s profile. His number one priority is his patients’ satisfaction, and he is very open to performing touch-ups if necessary to achieve perfect results.

In what case should cheekbone and cheek treatments be combined?

To “lift” the face: when hyaluronic acid is injected into the cheeks, an additional lifting effect occurs along with the cheekbones, which is the diminishing of the nasolabial and bitterness folds. The overall facial oval shape is also ameliorated, and if necessary, an additional Ultherapy Prime® treatment can be used to restore skin elasticity, improve density and boost collagen production.

Dr Benjamin Cozanet injects hyaluronic acid at cheek level with a blunt-tipped microcannula using the fan technique and corresponding to the “lifting vectors”, to fill-in the hollows without overly volumizing the cheeks, resulting in a perfectly natural facial result.

He could also prescribe the use of Radiesse®, another filler product which is fully absorbable and natural (Calcium hydroxylapatite), and increasingly used in aesthetic medicine. This product is a “tissue inducer” which boosts collagen production for aging skins, which are losing density and firmness.

Or others collagen inducer : Sculptra® and HarmonyCa®

When used on the cheeks, this product rejuvenates the zone and gets rid of an overly severe, or saddened look which certain patients may develop over time, thus restoring the volume depletion.

The injection results are immediate, and the results stabilize in 15-30 days. The results last 1-2 years. Dr Benjamin Cozanet always uses the best hyaluronic acid brands on the market (JUVEDERM® / RESTYLANE®), because he insists on providing the best filler products to his patients. The safest products on the market are those that have proven their harmlessness and effectiveness and are used on patients worldwide.

In what case should cheekbone and nasolabial fold treatments be combined?

Cheekbones and the nasolabial fold (extending from the wings of the nose to the corners of the mouth) are often interconnected.

The nasolabial fold is often one of the first signs of aging on the” middle third” of the face.

The nasolabial fold can show up around 30-35 and will become much more pronounced as time goes by.

The development and appearance of the nasolabial fold depends on several factors:

  • The loss and descent of malar fat (fat located in the cheekbone and upper cheek zones) in the nasolabial fold.

  • Frequent facial muscle contractions

  • The combined effects of atrophy and bone resorption in the cheek and cheekbone zones.

In aesthetic medicine, the nasolabial folds are treated with hyaluronic acid injections, using varying techniques depending on the doctor’s prognosis, and are often combined with a cheekbone treatment.

As of 40, the hollow present at the nasolabial fold level worsens as the cheekbone sagging located just above becomes more pronounced. It is often recommended to treat the cheekbones at the same time as sunken nasolabial folds on a tired and dull face.

To begin, Dr Benjamin Cozanet restores the ptotic malar fat (along the cheekbones) and the sagging cheek skin (if needed) with a hyaluronic acid injection.

Afterwards, the Doctor will fill in the nasolabial folds. The injected product will last for about 1 year, sometimes even longer. The treatment result duration is closely related to the quality of the injected products.

The benefit of this treatment will thus be to duly treat the cause and effect of these sagging and drooping phenomena.

For younger patients, cheekbone treatments are now a recurring demand, but this zone can quickly become overly puffy and “deform” the face. According to Dr Benjamin Cozanet, it is crucial to respect facial harmony, injecting gently and in smaller doses for the younger patients. Injections are done one after another, 3-4 weeks apart, to not overly “puff-up” the patient’s face and give them a “bloated”, unappealing, unnatural look.

Subtlety is the name of the game, and Dr Benjamin Cozanet’s role is to find the right balance to patient face fullness and provide natural rejuvenation, rather than the tired and aged look a sunken face gives off.

Remodeling the middle third of the face (Cheekbones / Cheeks / Nasolabial folds)

This painless treatment requires no social downtime, because the anesthetic is incorporated into the hyaluronic acid formulation and microcannulas are used, these flexible and blunt needles (Magic Needle) reduce any pain and discomfort to the tissues.

The risk of bruising and hematomas is practically non-existent thanks to these soft-tipped injections.

For cheekbones: the hyaluronic acid used is more cross-linked (denser) yielding more durable results lasting around 12-18 months.

For cheeks and nasolabial folds: the selected product will depend on the surface to fill and the degree of the hollow. Results are immediate and natural, lasting anywhere from 9-12 months.

Cheekbone Rejuvenation: Other Additional Treatments

Shape and definition loss on the facial oval can also be reduced by filling in the lower jawline thus getting rid of the depletion present between the chin and the jowls.

Often combined with a nasolabial fold correction, bitterness fold (or marionette line) correction and the inferior chin contour correction, the cheekbone filler produces a “lifting effect” which restores the face’s natural appearance.

In the case of overall sagging in the lower facial zone, it is also possible to reshape the facial oval contours with :

  • micro-focused ultrasound (Ultherapy Prime®), an alternative to the more invasive plastic surgery procedures

  • combination of synchronized Radiofrequency heating to stimulate collagen and elastin production and the HIFES™ (High Intensity Focused Electric Synchronized fields) facial muscle stimulation to contract and restore the facial muscles : EMFACE®, another alternative to the more invasive plastic surgery procedures

Laser Photorejuvenation provides the dual treatment of fine lines by stimulating collagen synthesis and thus improving skin texture, ameliorating the skin-aging pigmentation component, and restoring glow and radiance.

Certain peeling treatments can also be prescribed or may be combined with LED light therapy(chromotherapy).
