All male body parts can undergo permanent hair removal, regardless of skin color.
Male laser hair removal generally requires more sessions than women, due to male hormones which produce more developed hair follicle systems.
However, as of the 1st session, men will notice significant improvement (thicker hair is more sensitive to lasers).
Men don’t remove hair only for esthetic purposes, but also for hygiene and medical reasons, like ingrown hair and folliculitis.
Shaving, the most common male hair removal technique, makes hair stiffer as it regrows, producing routine irritations, itching, or even abscesses in case of infection.
Male hair removal can be partial or full, as per the desired results and the number of performed sessions.
Dr Benjamin Cozanet will respond to all your questions during your first pre-laser consultation, in his 1st district Parisian clinic.
Male Laser Hair Removal: Torso and Stomach
Laser hair removal on the torso and stomach has become popular for esthetic, hygiene, comfort and professional reasons, most especially for athletes (cyclists, swimmers, coaches…)
Laser is particularly suited to these zones where hair is thicker, responding well to the process. Waxing remains a highly painful process in these zones, while the razor is a last resort option for its many on-the-spot inconveniences (itchy hairs, ingrown hairs, red bumps, irritated skin...).
Full torso and abdomen hair removal require between 6-10 sessions, depending on hair growth. Maintenance sessions can be required.
Male Laser Hair Removal: Back
The back is hard to wax or shave for men. The laser is thus the ideal solution, for a hairy back, loaded with thick hair, generally on the upper back and shoulder level. On the lower back, hair often has peach fuzz density, thin and lighter which doesn’t require laser treatments.
8-10 sessions will be required for a full back laser hair removal result.
Male Laser Hair Removal | Pubis – Genitals-Buttocks-Intergluteal Cleft
Pubis laser hair removal (bikini), genitals, intergluteal cleft and buttocks are treatable on men and are in high demand due to hygiene and comfort motivations.
No risks, no contraindications to treating these delicate zones, nor for the full genital area, if so desired.
Dr Benjamin Cozanet performs all laser hair removal sessions himself.
Male Laser Hair Removal: Beard
Laser hair removal is a top-rated treatment for beard folliculitis, ingrown hairs which are a problem many men experience due to their routine habit of shaving.
At the beginning of the treatment, beard laser sessions are performed every 2 weeks, because hair follicle density is higher on the face, and the hair pilosity regrowth cycle is shorter and more rapid.
Sessions are then stretched out or interrupted, according to the patient’s desired results.
Facial hair removal treatment can be limited to the moustache, beard neckline, chin, around the neck or shirt collar, providing a clean and precise to the millimeter result, as per the desired shape and style.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser is a coherent monochromatic light source with a specific wavelength determined for each type of laser.
For hair removal, the selected laser corresponds to a wavelength selectively absorbed by the melanin (black pigment which colors hair and body hair) triggering the thermal destruction of the hair follicle.
These wavelengths range from 755 nm to 1064 nm.
Only the darkened hairs absorb the radiation which will burn them right down to their hair bulbs, situated in the dermis.
This is why the laser doesn’t work on blonde, white or red hair types, which are only slightly loaded with melanin (or not at all).
The energy of the beam, transformed into heat, selectively destroys the hair structures (which trigger regrowth) through carbonization.
Each laser emission burns the hair along a 1cm2 to 4cm2 surface area, as per the device used.
Skin is protected by a permanent cooling system on the laser’s edge which maintains the ideal temperature while the thermal waves act, avoiding all damage and pain, even if certain zones are more sensitive at the beginning of the treatment, and will require a topical anesthesia cream to maintain full comfort throughout the process.
Who is the right Male candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
All skin phototypes regardless of the degree of pigmentation can be treated through laser hair removal.
This hair removal system is highly recommended to treat dark haired men, and is also suitable for white, light, mat or black skin types. It also works on brunettes, but not on totally white or totally blonde hairs since the root contains no melanin.
